David Gamble

David Gamble, AIA, FAICP, LEED AP is a Lecturer in Urban Design at DUSP and is Founding Principal of Gamble Associates. He was a Design Critic and Lecturer at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD) from 2009-2021, and taught previously at Syracuse University and Northeastern University. He is a former chair of the American Institute of Architect's (AIA) Regional and Urban Design Committee (2017-2022) and the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) Urban Design Committee. He has served on the Boards of the BSA and Architecture Boston. His prior work experience includes Chan Krieger Sieniewicz (now nbbj), Krier&Kohl in Berlin, Germany and vanMerkesteyn & Partners in Potsdam, Germany and Zurich, Switzerland. David received a Bachelor’s of Architecture Degree from Kent State University and a Master’s of Architecture in Urban Design, with distinction, from the GSD. He is a recipient of the AIA’s National Young Architects Award and the Gabriel Prize. In 2026 he received Fellowship in the American Institute of Certified Planners. 

David’s research and writing probe the catalytic effects of contemporary urban design and planning projects with a focus on creative implementation strategies to enable redevelopment. Together with Patty Heyda (Washington University) he published “Rebuilding the American Town" (2025) and "Rebuilding the American City” (2016), both published by Routledge Press. The books present paradigms for redevelopment and a range of perspectives on the complexities, strategies, successes, and challenges inherent to rebuilding American towns and cities today. David is editor of “Idea City,” (University of Massachusetts Press, 2023) which brings together two dozen scholars and reflective practitioners to consider ways to improve the Greater Boston region for everyone.
