Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Housing

devin michelle bunten is Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Housing. Her areas of interest include gentrification & segregation, racial capitalism, and urban theory, especially regarding neighborhoods. Their writing on these and other topics, including queerness & transness, has been published in outlets including the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and CityLab. At MIT, she teaches (1) Planning Economics, (2) Housing and Social Stratification in the United States, and (3) Housing and Racial Capitalism.  Previously, they worked an economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC and completed a PhD (UCLA, 2016) and an MA (Colorado State, 2010) in economics. Her BA (University of Colorado-Denver, 2005) was in film studies. They also helped co-found the group Abundant Housing Los Angeles to organize for more housing production in the LA region. devin uses she or they pronouns.
