Ukraine Community Recovery Academy

The Association of Ukrainian Cities, in partnership with DUSP, is organizing an online training course for Ukrainian mayors and officials, mostly in small and medium sized cities across the country. DUSP has been asked to provide a module, tentatively entitled Economic Modelling, Recovery of Cities and Territories.  The course is designed to provide Ukrainian local officials with the most up to date research and thinking on economic development, as well as practical tools and case studies that could be adopted and applied in Ukraine’s recovery planning. 

The key learning goals for this module are the following:

  1. Develop an overview on current state of the art research and best practices in the fields of local/regional economic development and innovation and implications for urban development and reconstruction planning of Ukrainian cities
  2. Provide Ukrainian Mayors tools for undertaking economic development planning, spatial planning for growth/innovation/environmental protection strategies 
  3. Provide useful case studies of successful revitalization of urban areas including downtown business districts, industrial areas, streets, and shopping areas.
     

Individual lectures are expected to be an hour to an hour and a half duration max, with short breaks to separate each lecture within a session. Lectures will be delivered remotely, with simultaneous translation. Materials and slides will be curated for a range of English proficiency and with respect to prospective participants busy professional schedules. Lectures will be recorded for subsequent use on DUSP Open Learning, a free online portal hosted by DUSP.
