Master in City Planning

Sofia Chiappero, a Fulbright Fellow from Argentina, is currently a candidate for a Master's degree in City Planning at MIT. Her areas of interest include human-centered design, data and technology to promote social justice.  Sofia is focused on developing inclusive tools and systems to empower communities.

Her work spans extensive collaboration with informal settlements in South America, where she has addressed challenges tied to fragile economies, political conflicts, and the misrepresentation of community identities through inadequate data and policies.

As the co-founder of PUBLICO Lab, Sofia developed digital tools to enhance urban decision-making and increase public participation. She has also partnered with organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank and UN-Habitat to advance economic development initiatives.

At MIT, Sofia has been actively working in equity and inclusion projects through programs such as MITdesignX and the PKG Social Challenge accelerators. She is currently a MAD Fellow at the MIT Morningside Academy for Design and a Research Assistant at the MIT Data + Feminism Lab, where she collaborates on data activism initiatives.
