Mikel Berra Sandin

MCP Student

Mikel Berra Sandin is a first year Master’s in City Planning student at MIT with a concentration in City Design and Development. He completed his BArch/MArch in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, with an interest in integrated planning, transformation of mobility infrastructures, and analysis of economic activities in cities.
During his training as an architect, he has worked in offices such as SOM (Chicago) or Estudio Herreros (Madrid). From 2021 to 2023, he has worked in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona as project coordinator of the RiConnect / Avinguda del Vallés network, winner of the Catalan Prize for Territorial Planning.
In addition, he has also carried out urban projects and academic research with multidisciplinary teams, receiving awards such as the first prize at the American Planning Association's 2024 Student Planning and Design Competition in Minneapolis (leading a team of DUSP students with Cale Wagner, Hannah Leung, Zak Davidson and Sofia Chiappero), special mention at Europan 16 in Varberg (Sweden), or the first prize at the Nusos i Cruïlles International Competition in Barcelona.
