B.K.M. Ashraful Islam joined SPURS/Humphrey in 2018 from the Bangladesh Civil Service, where he worked in the transport sector developing Bangladesh’s first mass rapid transit system. Previously, he served in Bangladesh’s national Roads and Highways Department. Prior to joining the civil service, he was a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Asia Pacific in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Islam has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. At MIT, he studied transport policy and planning, intelligent transport systems, and smart transport infrastructures for developing countries.
