Participatory Action Research and Digital Technologies
This 25-minute presentation is part of a class on Participatory Action Research where we will discuss lessons learned through research taking on action approaches. Professor Dillahunt is an MLK Fellow at DUSP, and Alex Jiahong Lu, is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan’s School of Information. Together, the presenters will share an overview of institutional structures aiming to facilitate community-based action research and lessons learned from an ongoing collaboration to reimagine the future of safety infrastructure using Photovoice in east-side Detroit neighborhoods. The approach seeks to understand how community members perceive safety and feel safe instead of city-wide efforts to use surveillance technologies to prevent crime.
