Pierre Fallavier
Has been working in Asia and Africa for over 25 years as a social scientist and aid planner with international agencies, local governments, civil society, and academia in applied research, strategic planning, policy and program development and implementation, and evaluations across humanitarian, resilience, and development issues. Specialized in reaching most vulnerable groups in fragile settings and complex crises. Prior to joining SPURS, headed the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator's Office for Yemen. Led a team coordinating the work of the UN Country Team with strategic and practical planning guidance, support, and program coordination to help the most vulnerable groups in Yemen achieve humanitarian, development, and peace objectives.
Holds a BCom from McGill University, an MA in Community Planning from the University of British Columbia, and a PhD in Urban Studies and Planning from MIT.
While at SPURS, intends to reflect on professional practice, priorities and approaches to humanitarian and development support in fragile settings and complex crises, and on the skills needed to train new cadres working in humanitarian aid, development, and peace. Aims to engage with scholars and students working on social justice from different fields to expand his analytical frame, and produce publications and training material useful to students and aid practitioners.
