Tyler Barron

MCP Student

Tyler is a Master in City Planning Graduate student in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. He grew up in Falmouth, Massachusetts and received his B.A. in Community Collaboration and Sustainable Together-Living and his B.S. in Sustainable Food and Farming from UMass Amherst. He also has a Community Food Systems Certificate from Iowa State University Extension.

Following his undergraduate studies he had many experiences and wore many hats. He biked across the country in 2019 for an affordable housing non-profit called Bike & Build, he learned to throw pottery and practiced making and selling pieces for three years, and he learned how to repair and operate a sailboat. To earn a living, he worked as a farmer, landscaper, deck-hand for the Sea Education Association, a field assistant for the Woodwell Climate Research Center, a co-owner of a food co-op, and as a carpentry apprentice. He also spent two years living in New Mexico and working at MASS Design Group. Most recently, he worked as a research intern at the Dutch Cycling Embassy in Utrecht, where he wrote a report on cycling diplomacy.

Tyler has been on the board of Farming Falmouth, an agriculture non-profit for 5 years, where he has hosted public workshops, started a pawpaw orchard, secured over $25,000 in grant funding, and authored a food system assessment for the town of Falmouth.
