Research Overview

DUSP has a rich diversity of research and action labs, often as part of broader Institute-wide collaborations.

A key feature of DUSP’s approach to research is our deep collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including: community members, organizations, non-profits and foundations; offices and agencies at all levels of government; private companies across a range of sectors and services; and, often in collaboration across these and other stakeholders.

Anti-Racist Research Initiative

In an effort to improve the research undertaken in and beyond DUSP, a group of our faculty, staff and students launched the Anti-Racist Research Initiative.

The ARRI initially worked to: 1) Clarify what is meant, in practice, when research is described as racially just; 2) Understand the extent to which our research infrastructure and capabilities advance, or hinder, racially just research; and, 3) Recommend (to DUSP, MIT, and the field) changes in research infrastructure, policies, practices to better support research that advances racial justice.

A resulting set of evolving principles to explicitly guide racially just research practice continues to be refined and translated into the practice of our research. Our aspiration is to broaden the adaptation of these principles in and beyond DUSP.
