Delving into the History of NYC Public Transit

With an estimated one third of all public transit ridership in the U.S. the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) should be offering the best of mass transit. Yet, persistent challenges - such as outdated infrastructure, climate impacts, underfunding, and underinvestment - chronically impact the MTA's ability to deliver essential services.

In Planning Magazine, DUSP's Ezra Glenn reflects on Emmett Adler's documentary, End of the Line, which documents how the ambitious Fast Forward Plan was complicated and delayed in implementation due to politics and public disputes. 

As Glenn writes, "While the film isn't an uplifting story of a plan implemented and problem solved, it's nonetheless an important one for planners — and anyone who cares about the future of our cities — to confront."
