Introduction to Spatial Analysis and GIS

Practical introduction to spatial analysis and geographic information systems (GIS). Examines how geography is represented digitally and how nonrandom distributions of phenomena as diverse as poverty and scenic resources can be better understood by examining their spatial characteristics.

  • Students are required to go to a lab of their choice the first week of classes: Wednesday, or Thursday from 5-7 pm in W31-301.
  • Permanent lab assignments will be made after the first week of class. This will be based on a lottery system.
  • The first day of lecture is on Wednesday following Registration Day. Lecture is both Monday and Wednesday, 2:30-4pm and lab sessions will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 4:30-6:30pm. Students will attend one lab session for the duration of the course.
