Sonny Oram

As DUSP's Communications Assistant, Sonny is applying a passion for racial justice, trans rights, and environmental justice through promoting urban solutions. A graphic designer, Sonny's poster designs for DUSP have been featured on Archinect's "Get Lectured" Series and will be on display in a solo exhibit at MIT's Rotch Library 6/15- 9/15/2018.

Sonny is the Founding Editor of Qwear, a website which showcases LGBTQIA+ modes of expression. Qwear gained international recognition with press including The New York TimesBuzzfeed, S Moda (Spain), The Huffington Post, and Design*Sponge. In 2015 Sonny was awarded dapperQ of the year. Sonny has been interviewed by Edge Media Network (Transcending the Suit Industry, Dec 27 2016).

On October 3, 2017, Sonny presented a panel at MIT along with Architect Joel Sanders and Trans Rights Lawyer Shiona Heru: "From Stud to Stalled!: Social Equity and Public Space" on a proposed shift to make multi-stall bathrooms on campus accessible to people of all genders, ages, sizes, and abilities. In March 2016, Sonny spoke at South by South West's first official queer fashion panel Queer Style: Visual Activism and Fashion’s Frontier, addressing issues of beauty, size, and gender performance in the fashion industry. Other speaking engagements include Gentrification Beyond Displacement (Co-Moderator), April 18, 2017; and Trans Health Forum at Temple Shir Tikvah, Winchester, MA , April 10, 2016 (Moderator).

Trained as a violist (Oberlin Conservatory), Sonny was previously Manager of the Lydian String Quartet at Brandeis University.
