"Scaling Infrastructure" Conference at the CAU

On April 10, 2014, MIT's Center for Advanced Urbanism kicked off its Spring 2014 Symposium, on the topic of "Scaling Infrastructure."   Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago and former White House Chief of Staff for President Obama, gave the keynote address and a Q&A session moderated by DUSP professor Judy Layzer.

The conference was the CAU’s second and final conference on the biennial "infrastructure" theme, convening political leaders, infrastructural engineers, design professionals and academicians to discuss groundbreaking ideas on infrastructure. Faced with new economic, political, and environmental challenges, the question of appropriate infrastructural investments and design scales is critical to the future of urbanized territories. The technical and political realities, design possibilities, and social and economic concerns for shaping sustainable infrastructural futures in American and International contexts will be addressed.
