On August 21, final planning proposals from the Medellin Practicum were presented to community members and city planners in an exhibition titled "Comuna 8, a varias manos / Comuna 8, by several hands."
During Spring 2013, DUSP students and faculty worked with the School of Urban and Regional Planning at the National University of Colombia and the Comuna 8 Local Planning Council to support community planning processes in Medellin’s Comuna 8 district. The Practicum served to provide community members with new planning tools and designs to leverage in efforts to incorporate their local development priorities into Medellin’s current urban mega-projects and new 12-year Spatial Plan.
The exhibition and event was organized by Corporación Diáfora, a community-based cultural organization in Comuna 8, and displays work produced by participants of the Medellin Practicum, other university-community collaborations, and community-led planning processes. The exhibition opening included presentations to community members, city planners, and city council representatives involved in the revision and approval process of Medellin’s new Spatial Plan.
The exhibition will be on display through October 8 in the Parque Biblioteca León de Greiff La Ladera in Medellin’s Comuna 8.
