MATI - Mozambique: Advocacy and Participatory Planning

UrbanAfrica presents:
MATI - Mozambique
Speaker: Dr. Gabriella Carolini (MIT), Prof. Anselmo Cani Lourenco (University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) in Mozambique), students of both MIT and UEM
This summer, researchers from MIT joined with researchers, community members, and other stakeholders from Mozambique in Southern Africa!
Have you considered questions like: How can the work of planning and advocacy planners from far outside a community help to better position and stimulate community-based organization around local neighborhood needs?; How do we address the 'burdens of participation' among the urban poor, whom are already burdened by much, in practice?; How can we help local planners also reach vulnerable communities whose interest are so often overlooked in contexts of rapid change in the name of 'economic development'?

Come to this event to engage in a discussion with the MATI-Mozambique team as they present their research after contending with these same questions!
Presenters include researchers from both MIT and the University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) of Maputo, Mozambique!
Please view Dr. Gabriella Carolini's MIT Public Service Center blog entry about the MATI-Mozambique research experience: http://psc25.mit.edu/prof-gabriella-carolini-publics-service
And yes, light refreshments will be served (please RSVP). See you there!
