A professional cartographer, GIS Analyst, and designer, Mike Foster specializes in cartographic design, data visualization, graphics, and spatial science. He has almost a decade of diverse experience in the field, having worked with organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to top universities.
Mike received his B.S. in Cartography and GIS in from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (’06) and got his Masters in GIS and Computer Science from the University of Minnesota (’10). His research and focus has been on cartographic design and presentation, graphics software interoperability, open source development and crowdsource data, and database design and implementation.
Within DUSP, Mike is a specialist in GIS, Data Visualization, and Graphics, providing advanced GIS and data visualization instruction and serving as a geospatial resource to students, faculty, and staff. Away from the office, Mike is author of the Cartography and Design Blog, Graphicarto, and an active cartographer, graphic artist, and web designer as co-founder of F+H Geographics, LLC, a small cartography/web consultancy firm.
