Mike is a Cartographer, GIS and Data Visualization Specialist and Instructor at DUSP, focusing on urban-oriented geospatial technologies, web cartography, and data visualization. He is responsible for GIS instruction, supporting student and faculty research in a civic setting, and developing and managing curriculum for coding, mapping, and data management within the department. An expert in cartographic design, graphic production, data management and analysis, and spatial analytics, Mike has a strong background in the planning and GIS fields.
Mike is a Certified GIS Professional (GISP) with a decade of experience providing comprehensive, full stack, successful solutions in both public and private settings. Special focus on oil and gas, crowdsource data collection, transportation planning, environmental resource management, and real estate. Outside of MIT, he is co-founder of F+H GeoGraphics, LLC, and one of the founders of MaptimeBoston.
He has a Master's Degree in Geographic Information Science from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, with a Graduate minor in Computer Science, with a focus on interoperability, open source GIS, and web/application usability design, and a B.S. in Geography from University of Wisconsin - Madison, with a focus on cartographic design and representation.
