American Planning Association (APA) China Program Workshop

Speakers: Jeffrey Soule, FAICP, Director of Outreach and International Programs at the American Planning Association (APA).

Yuan Fang (Andy), AICP, Program Associate for International Affairs at APA.

Since China's economic reform in 1978, American Planning Association (APA) has been working closely on planning issues with central, provincial, and local governments in the People's Republic of China. Among all, providing training service to Chinese mayors is one of APA China Program's most important outreach efforts. As a professional trainer certified by Chinese central government, APA's training service come in with a variety of topics from political structure, public participation, smart growth, zoning regulations, transportation and land use, public administration, policy evaluation, property management, historic preservation, green infrastructure, urban design practices, and many others. Over the years, nearly 1000 Chinese mayors have been trained by APA. In this workshop, Mr. Jeffrey Soule and Mr. Yuan Fang (Andy) will share with participants their training stories and discuss how to apply American planning best practices in China. In 2013, APA will welcome 6 to 8 training delegations from China again. In this workshop, Mr. Soule and Fang expect to meet with students who are interested in helping APA lead these delegations.
