New England Climate Adaptation Project

This multiyear project is supported by the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) at NOAA.  A team of MIT students and faculty, under the direction of Professor Susskind and Patrick Field at the Consensus Building Institute,  are working with coastal communities in four New England states to test the proposition that massive playing or tailored role-play simulations can increase the readiness and inclination of officials and residents to address collective risk management challenges associated with climate change. Elaborate before-and-after surveys with almost one thousand residents as well as in-depth interviews with 20% of the "game players" should help us track the impact of game-playing on public readiness to address collective risk management choices. (See for more information). There are five MCP students and two PHD students working on this project.
