Green Infrastructure Implementation in Philadelphia

The City of Philadelphia, as a national leader in stormwater management, plans to implement many of its water quality goals by building ten thousand acres of green infrastructure, which is almost one-third of the total area of the central city area. This will require a substantial number of residential and commercial property owners to retrofit their properties using new green infrastructure. This project, funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 2012-2017, studied the existing obstacles to investment in green infrastructure, and seeks to build new tools, policies, and processes in order to enable actors at all levels, including citizens, neighborhoods, institutions and city agencies to realize the city’s ambitious environmental goals.
